Just finished up with a night of Culture + Theology. The speaker was a pastor from Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minnesota. I think that there were some basic Christian ideas applied towards how we should treat everybody in this world, no matter the color of their skin or the culture in which they grew up. The best part to me was when he told us things that we could do as a church to grow in racial harmony. These are things that could help shift our thinking from being ignorant to really understanding that racism still exists and can ruin a church body just as easily as any other sin. My hope is that we can take this idea of racial harmony and apply it to our family lives, work lives and especially our church. If we continue to mention how wrong it is to segregate ourselves in this way, then I believe that we can achieve greater things for years to come. In doing so, I also believe that we can set a standard in which our church will live by and our children can grow up. I’m excited to see which steps our church takes in this, and to see how our attitudes shift. I will try to type up the notes and post them as soon as I get a free hour or so. Until then…..
