Victim of Circumstance?

Scribbled by Darrell Barnes

As I sat in the seat at The Village on Sunday night, I was overwhelmed with thoughts of the weekend. It had been a great/crazy weekend. John Warren said something that really hit me. I have always dealt with the idea that it is hard to want to worship when things aren't going our way. For example, in the desert...a place that I find myself in too often....it's hard to want to accept the grace of God. When I feel shame, and guilt, and anger, and all sorts of other things that feel like I will never make it out it's hard to say, "Thank you Jesus for saving me, I want more of you." However, in this place...this place of loneliness, and suffering, and what feels like darkness should be the very place that I cry out to God and say, "Have mercy on me!"

Back to John's statement...It was something to the effect of, "God is not a God of circumstance." It reminded me that God is sovereign and we should worship Him above all things, and in every season of life. And no, we shouldn't only cry out for mercy when times are hard, but in the good times as well. I'll leave you with some lyrics from Hillsong United's "The Desert Song."

All of my life
In every season
You are still God
I have a reason to sing
I have a reason to worship
